At least seven people, including two children, have been killed and 20 others injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan’s Punjab province over the past 24 hours, as heavy downpours caused house collapses, drownings and electrocution incidents.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), several houses were damaged and livestock were killed due to the rains. The fatalities were caused by drowning and structural collapses, while most injuries were reported in roof-collapse and electrocution incidents.
In Lahore, three people, including a child, were killed and five others injured in separate roof-collapse incidents in Garhi Shahu Railway Colony, Bobby Plaza, Saggian Pind and Kahna areas.
In Kasur district, two people, including a man and a child, died after a house roof collapsed near Adda Dhing Shah, while three others, including a woman and two children, were injured.
A woman was killed in a roof-collapse incident in Faisalabad, while a child drowned in rainwater accumulated in fields near Pathan Colony in Gujranwala.
Several other incidents were reported from Bahawalnagar, Narowal, Sialkot, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura and Okara, where people were injured due to collapsing roofs, falling structures and electrocution.
PDMA Director General, while addressing a press conference, said that 22 people have been killed and 183 injured in rain-related incidents across Punjab so far.
The latest casualties come days after heavy rains and flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province left at least 20 people dead and 19 injured. The affected areas included Buner, Bajaur, Shangla, Swabi, Chitral, Dir, Peshawar, Abbottabad and several other districts.
The PDMA said dozens of houses have also been damaged due to heavy rainfall and flash floods in the affected regions.
