Bollywood personalities Kriti Sanon, Ishaan Khatter and Ranvir Shorey reacted to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with varied responses highlighting the political development and its significance in a democracy.
Pradhan announced on Saturday that he had submitted his resignation to the Union Cabinet through a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Kriti Sanon shared a message on Instagram Stories, writing, “A true democracy doesn’t weaken when questioned. It strengthens when it listens.”
Actor Ishaan Khatter shared a picture of himself holding a drawing with the slogan “Inquilaab Zindabad” and said democracy had prevailed. “India won today. Democracy won today. The collective empathy of millions washed the apathy of habit,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, actor Ranvir Shorey reacted to the development on X, describing it as a political move by the government. “And in one swift move the Modi govt has managed to win over none of its enemies, and disenchant a lot of its supporters,” he posted.
Pradhan’s resignation came after weeks of protests by students and citizens over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the NEET-UG controversy. The protests had intensified following demonstrations in Delhi and the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk during a hunger strike demanding accountability over examination-related issues.
Following Pradhan’s resignation, Pralhad Joshi was appointed as the new Union Education Minister.
The development triggered reactions across political and public circles, with supporters and critics viewing it through different lenses as a debate continued over examination reforms, accountability and the functioning of democratic institutions.
