Marking Kargil Vijay Diwas, Hoshiarpur MLA Brahm Shankar Jimpa on Saturday paid floral tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. He visited the Shaheedi Smarak in the city and honoured the martyrs for their courage, valour and supreme sacrifice in defending the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Jimpa said Kargil Vijay Diwas is not merely a celebration of India’s military victory but a tribute to the unmatched bravery, determination and patriotism displayed by the Indian Armed Forces. He said Indian soldiers fought under extremely challenging conditions to protect the country’s borders, setting an enduring example of courage before the world.
The MLA said the sacrifices made by the country’s soldiers can never be forgotten, adding that citizens continue to live in peace and security because of their dedication and selfless service. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from the lives of the martyrs and embrace the values of patriotism, discipline and national service.
Highlighting Punjab’s rich military tradition, Jimpa said the state has always produced brave soldiers who have made significant contributions in every conflict fought by the nation. He noted that several sons of Hoshiarpur also made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War, bringing pride to the district and the country.
He said honouring the nation’s martyrs is the moral responsibility of every citizen and stressed the importance of educating future generations about their extraordinary courage and sacrifices.
Those present observed a two-minute silence in memory of the Kargil martyrs and reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the ideals for which the soldiers laid down their lives. Jimpa said the martyrs’ sacrifice would continue to inspire generations in safeguarding the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the nation.
Councillor Praveen Saini, Mohan Lal Pehlwan, Bahadur Singh Sunet, Manjit Singh, Pradeep Saini, Sanjay Sharma, Satpal, Jaswant Rai, Jasbir Singh Coach, Harbinder Singh Harry, Madan Lal, Sujata Barjata and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
