Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Declaration at the 18th BRICS Summit reflects the confidence of a grouping that has become wider in reach and stronger in purpose.
In a post on X, Modi said the declaration focuses on innovation, sustainability and people-to-people ties, with the objective of making BRICS cooperation more practical, development-oriented and responsive to the aspirations of member countries.
He said BRICS would deepen cooperation in emerging areas including artificial intelligence, Digital Public Infrastructure, quantum technologies, startups, MSMEs, science and research. The grouping would also work to strengthen the New Development Bank and enhance cooperation in food, health and energy security, resilient supply chains and sustainable infrastructure.
Modi said the declaration carries a broader message about the need for global institutions to evolve in line with changing realities, while keeping development at the centre of the international agenda.
He stressed that the voice of the Global South must receive greater weight, adding that BRICS stands for dialogue, reform, peace and a more representative multilateral order. At the same time, he said, the grouping would continue to speak firmly against terrorism, double standards and threats to international stability.
Earlier, BRICS leaders attended a session on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” at Bharat Mandapam.
India is hosting the two-day 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, bringing together leaders of member and partner countries as well as outreach invitees.
Modi announced the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Declaration 2026 and unveiled two postage stamps commemorating 20 years of BRICS.
In his closing remarks, he said the declaration provides a clear direction to the grouping’s shared resolve and called on member countries to translate its commitments into concrete outcomes. He added that discussions at the summit covered key regional and global issues and priorities aimed at further strengthening BRICS cooperation.
