A total of 149 Indian nationals have been rescued from flood-affected areas of Nepal following the devastating flash floods, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Sunday.
The MEA shared the list of all 149 rescued Indian nationals in a post on X, stating that the figure was recorded as of 5.30 p.m. on Sunday.
India also intensified its humanitarian assistance to Nepal, with the fourth flight carrying 11 tonnes of relief material arriving in the country. The consignment included equipment and personnel for search and rescue operations, a forensic team for DNA analysis, and relief supplies such as blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, plastic sheets and hygiene kits.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Saturday that 16 trucks carrying equipment for a 230-foot single-lane modular steel bridge had reached Nepal. Equipment for seven additional Bailey bridges would be supplied soon, while technical teams for their installation were expected to arrive shortly.
Jaishankar said India had so far airlifted 68.5 tonnes of relief material to Kathmandu, including essential medicines, portable generator sets, food packets, water purification tablets and technical equipment.
India is also assisting Nepal in identifying victims of the floods. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava on Sunday met members of the Indian Forensic Team deployed in the country for the purpose.
According to the MEA, the Indian forensic experts will work with their Nepali counterparts to analyse DNA samples and help identify the mortal remains of victims.
Srivastava reiterated that India would continue to extend strong support to Nepal’s ongoing rescue and relief operations.
