Actress Akanksha Puri is preparing for a special appearance in an upcoming Gujarati film, and she says she has made a conscious effort to understand the language and culture rather than simply follow instructions for the role.
Puri said she wanted her appearance to reflect the Gujarati setting authentically and therefore spent time working on her pronunciation, expressions and the finer nuances of the language.
“I wanted to get the Gujarati essence right and not just go by what I was told. I feel when you are stepping into a new language and culture, you should make the effort to understand it properly,” Puri told IANS.
“I spent time learning the pronunciation and expressions, and honestly, it was such a fun experience. I really wanted to bring that authenticity to my appearance,” she added.
Details about her special appearance have been kept under wraps. However, the actress has reportedly put considerable effort into learning Gujarati and understanding the cultural nuances required for the role.
Puri was recently seen in Randeep Hooda-starrer Inspector Avinash 2, in which she played Punjaban, a dancer who becomes an informer.
Reflecting on that project, the Bigg Boss OTT fame actress said she was looking for a role that would challenge her and take her beyond familiar territory.
“I wanted to do something fearless and different. This role allowed me to step away from my comfort zone and explore a much stronger and emotionally intense side of myself as an actor,” she said.
Inspector Avinash 2 premiered on JioHotstar on May 15.
