CM Mann’s Wife Dr Gurpreet Kaur Serves Legal Notice on Former Justice Ranjit Singh, Seeks Apology

Chandigarh, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has served a legal notice on former Justice Ranjit Singh over allegations levelled against her, demanding an apology within 24 hours and warning of legal proceedings if he fails to do so.

The development was disclosed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amandeep Kaur while addressing a press conference on Saturday.

Amandeep Kaur said the allegations against Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann had been made by Ranjit Singh, brother-in-law of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira. She described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.

According to the AAP MLA, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann has sought an apology from Ranjit Singh within 24 hours through the legal notice. In the event of his failure to apologise, legal proceedings would be initiated and the matter taken to court, she said.

Amandeep Kaur said every individual had the right to seek legal recourse when faced with what they considered false and defamatory allegations.

She maintained that opposition parties had every right to question the government, oppose its policies and criticise its functioning, but said political criticism should not extend to unsubstantiated attacks on an individual’s private life, reputation or character.

“Ask questions in politics, oppose, criticise, but the politics of attacking someone’s private life and making allegations without evidence must stop,” she said.

The Moga MLA challenged the opposition to produce concrete facts and evidence to substantiate allegations concerning inappropriate demands allegedly made in the name of party funds.

She also referred to allegations previously levelled against Rajvir Singh, OSD to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, claiming that no concrete evidence had been presented in support of those allegations.

Amandeep Kaur said the AAP was not seeking to suppress criticism or the opposition’s voice. She said any alleged irregularity in a government decision or its functioning should be questioned on the basis of facts and evidence.

She, however, termed personal remarks against women and family members “highly shameful” and said attempts to damage a person’s reputation through hearsay and baseless allegations would be countered through legal means.

The AAP MLA also attributed what she described as the opposition’s frustration to the popularity of the AAP government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

She cited government initiatives including jobs for youth, free electricity for households, health insurance coverage of up to ₹10 lakh, expansion of canal water availability, daytime power supply to farmers, the pilgrimage scheme and the Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar scheme.

Amandeep Kaur said opposition leaders should focus their politics on facts and public issues and point out shortcomings in the government’s functioning wherever they existed.

She asserted that personal attacks and unsupported allegations could not be treated as legitimate political debate and those making such charges would have to substantiate them if the dispute reached the courts.
