Bollywood actress Kajol once spoke with deep admiration about legendary actress Sridevi, describing her as an “unbelievable actress” and saying she wished Sridevi would open an acting school so that she could be its first student.
During an appearance on veteran actor Anupam Kher’s chat show The Anupam Kher Show, Kajol recalled how Sridevi became her favourite actress as she grew older.
Asked by Kher about her favourite actresses before entering the film industry, Kajol said she did not initially have one but developed a strong admiration for Sridevi while growing up.
“She was awesome. I always tell her that ‘you should open a school. I must be the first student in your school’ because she is the most unbelievable actress,” Kajol had said.
Kajol particularly admired Sridevi’s ability to completely inhabit different characters while retaining something of herself in every performance. She described the veteran star as a “chameleon” and a true actor.
Referring to films including Chandni, ChaalBaaz, Sadma, Lamhe and Khuda Gawah, Kajol said each performance had something of Sridevi while remaining centred on the character she portrayed.
Kajol also praised Sridevi’s youthful enthusiasm and passion for life, saying that her eyes continued to reflect curiosity and a desire to take on new challenges despite everything she had achieved.
“She still has it in her eyes. She’s alive. She’s interested. She’s passionate,” Kajol had said, describing the actress as someone who still wanted to accomplish more and explore different things in life.
Despite Kajol’s admiration, the two actresses never got an opportunity to share the screen.
Sridevi died on February 24, 2018, aged 54, after accidentally drowning.
