Jharkhand: Three engineers killed, one injured in boiler blast at Ramgarh factory

Ramgarh, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Three engineers were killed and an employee was seriously injured after a boiler blast at the power plant of Maa Chhinnamastika Cement and Ispat in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, officials said on Saturday.

The incident occurred late on Friday night at the factory in Hehal under the jurisdiction of Barkakana police station.

The injured employee was identified as Tarun Rajwar, a resident of Hazaribagh. He was admitted to The Hope Hospital on Ranchi Road and is undergoing treatment in serious condition.

The deceased were identified as factory shift in-charge Sanjeev Kumar Kesari, 50, of Ranchi; Vineet Mahto, 25, of Jageshwar Vihar in Bokaro; and Abhishek Pandey, 24, of Nagar Untari in Garhwa district.

According to preliminary information, a loud explosion occurred while work was underway at the power plant, triggering panic among workers.

Barkakana police reached the factory after receiving information about the incident. Police station in-charge Umashankar Verma said three workers were killed, while the injured employee was shifted to Ranchi for specialised treatment.

Preliminary findings suggest that excessive temperature in the power plant system may have led to a technical malfunction. Officials are also examining the possibility that a protection-system failure caused the turbine to go into overspeed, resulting in the blast.

However, the exact cause will be established only after a detailed investigation.

The incident has sparked anger among factory workers, who have alleged negligence in the maintenance of safety systems. Employees claimed that the temperature inside the plant’s control room had been rising for some time and that its air-conditioning system was not functioning properly.

Workers said the management and concerned officials had been informed about the problem several times. They also claimed that temperature readings were regularly taken using a temperature gun and shared with the management, but the cooling system was not repaired in time.

Employees have demanded an impartial probe into the accident, adequate compensation for the families of the deceased and proper medical treatment for the injured worker.
