Doddaballapur, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Karnataka’s Doddaballapur for allegedly maintaining contact through Instagram with members of a Pakistan-based criminal network, police said.
The accused, identified as Syed Abubakar, a resident of Islampur in Doddaballapur, was arrested following inputs from the Counterintelligence Cell and Intelligence Bureau (IB), according to the police.
Investigators alleged that Abubakar had been in contact for nearly two years with a Pakistani gang associated with the Shajad Butti Network through the Instagram account “Hammadmemon333”. Police said he had also shared details of his Aadhaar card with the account.
According to investigators, the network is suspected of threatening prominent individuals and businessmen and allegedly extorting money.
Police said Abubakar worked as an AC repair technician and also taught at a mosque in Bengaluru. The investigation has further indicated that he had travelled to Kerala and Delhi and allegedly received training, they said.
The police also said a check of Abubakar’s mobile phone showed that he had liked reels related to Pakistan-based gangsters, uploaded videos associated with them as status updates and stored photographs of pistols on the device.
Abubakar was arrested from his residence in Islampur and has been taken into custody for further questioning.
A case has been registered against him under Sections 113(3) and 197(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police said, adding that the investigation is continuing and further details are expected to emerge.
