Ferozepur, August 22, 2026 (Vikram Ditya Sharma)

The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has uncovered suspected links between drug trafficking networks and inmates lodged in Nabha and Gurdaspur Central Jails in two separate operations, recovering 6.465 kg of heroin, two sophisticated pistols and Rs 1.35 lakh in alleged drug proceeds.

According to AIG ANTF Gurinderbir Singh, four persons have been arrested in the two cases as investigators probe the alleged operation of drug networks from inside the jails.

In the first operation, ANTF teams arrested Ajay Chumbar and Sharandeep Singh alias Sunny, both residents of Kapurthala district, near the grain market in Sande Hasham village. The two were allegedly travelling in a Toyota Etios when they were intercepted, leading to the recovery of 5.530 kg of heroin.

Preliminary investigation has allegedly established links with Prince of Pandva village in Kapurthala and Ajit Singh alias Happy of Habib Wala village in Ferozepur. Both are lodged in Nabha Central Jail and are suspected of directing criminal activities from inside the prison, the AIG said.

Prince has nine FIRs registered against him, while Ajit Singh faces two FIRs.

In a separate operation based on information received from a central agency, the ANTF arrested Rohit, a resident of the city, and Gurpreet Singh of Jaid village in Kapurthala following a chase in Ludhiana.

The operation resulted in the recovery of 935 grams of heroin, two sophisticated pistols and Rs 1.35 lakh in suspected drug money. A Thar Roxx jeep allegedly used by the accused was also impounded.

Investigators have found that the two men were allegedly in contact with Ravinder Singh alias Ravi alias Sukh, described as a close associate of gangster Ashish Chopra, and Akhil Sabharwal alias Prince. Both are currently lodged in Gurdaspur Central Jail, according to the ANTF.

The four jail inmates named in the investigation will be brought on production warrants for questioning and further investigation.

The AIG said mobile phones had also been recovered with the assistance of jail authorities. Further details and possible links in the alleged drug networks are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
