India’s Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra will return to Diamond League action at the Lausanne Diamond League, also known as Athletissima, on August 21, following his silver medal-winning performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The javelin throw competition in Lausanne will feature one of the strongest fields of the season, with five athletes who have won the last four Olympic and World Championship titles set to compete.
The event will bring together leading names from across the world, including reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, Neeraj Chopra of India, Sri Lanka’s Pathirage, Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott and Grenada’s Anderson Peters. The line-up reflects the growing dominance of athletes from the Indian subcontinent and the Caribbean in global javelin.
The Lausanne audience will also witness different throwing styles, with Peters’ meeting record of 90.61 metres under threat. Switzerland’s Simon Wieland, Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, Germany’s Julian Weber and American Curtis Thompson are also part of the elite field.
Chopra, Arshad, Pathirage, Peters and Walcott had competed in the Commonwealth Games 2026 javelin final, where Pathirage claimed gold with a massive throw of 89.75 metres in challenging windy conditions. Chopra recorded a season-best effort of 85.83 metres to finish second, while defending champion Arshad Nadeem endured a disappointing outing, finishing ninth with 77.41 metres. Peters secured fourth place with 83.88 metres.
In the Diamond League standings, Chopra, the 2022 champion, currently occupies seventh position with five points. Pathirage and Peters have already secured qualification for the finals with 23 points each.
The Lausanne meet will provide Chopra another opportunity to strengthen his position in the Diamond League standings as he continues his preparations for upcoming international competitions.
