Tejashwi Questions Probe into Dehri EO Murder, Targets Bihar Govt Over Law and Order

Patna, August 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Leader of the Opposition in Bihar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday criticised the state government over the murder of Dehri Municipal Council Executive Officer Vimal Kumari, alleging that the police investigation was not examining all possible angles and accusing the government of failing to curb rising crime.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, Tejashwi claimed the investigation was moving in the wrong direction and asserted that more than one person could be involved in the killing. He demanded the strictest punishment for those responsible.

The RJD leader said he had met the victim’s family on Sunday and described the murder as “deeply disturbing.” He further alleged that this was the second killing of a government official since Samrat Choudhary assumed office as Bihar Chief Minister.

Tejashwi claimed that while the investigation was primarily focused on the victim’s driver, the family had also levelled allegations against other individuals. He questioned why the driver had allegedly changed his statements multiple times and why the weapon purportedly used in the crime had not yet been recovered.

He also referred to allegations made by the victim’s family against NDA/LJP-RV MLA Sonu Singh, claiming they had linked him to the conspiracy and alleged that money had been demanded. Tejashwi questioned why this aspect was not being investigated thoroughly.

“How can pressure related to official work justify someone’s murder?” he asked, adding that accepting such an explanation would set a dangerous precedent.

The former Deputy Chief Minister also questioned the alleged association between Inspector General Vikas Vaibhav and MLA Sonu Singh, referring to their appearances together at public events, and urged investigators to examine every possible lead instead of limiting the probe.

Accusing the Bihar government of shielding influential people in several cases, Tejashwi questioned Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s priorities, alleging that he had not met the victim’s family despite attending various public programmes.

He demanded adequate security for the bereaved family and sought a government job for the victim’s wife.

Commenting on the Bankipur Assembly by-election results, Tejashwi said the RJD respected the people’s verdict but claimed the outcome reflected growing public resentment against the BJP. He also alleged that the BJP had suffered setbacks in several recent elections while the RJD had registered a victory in an MLC election.

Stepping up his attack on the Chief Minister, Tejashwi described Samrat Choudhary as a “complete failure” and challenged the government to highlight a single major achievement during his first 100 days in office.
