India on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack on the Indian-flagged commercial vessel MSV Faize Noore Oliya, which sank in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen, while confirming that all 13 Indian nationals aboard had been rescued safely.
In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the Indian Embassy in Riyadh is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Yemeni authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the rescued crew members.
“We condemn the attack on the Indian flagged commercial vessel, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, that sank in the Red Sea, off the coast of Yemen on August 4, 2026. All 13 Indian nationals have been rescued. Our Embassy in Riyadh is closely monitoring the situation and proactively coordinating with the Yemeni authorities for the safety and security of the crew. We thank the Yemeni authorities for their support,” the MEA said.
The Ministry also expressed concern over the continuing attacks on commercial shipping in the region, stating that such incidents are deeply troubling. It called for an immediate end to attacks on merchant vessels and urged the restoration of free and unhindered navigation and commerce through international waterways in accordance with international law.
Earlier, Yemeni government-affiliated National Resistance Forces (NRF) said coast guard and naval units had rescued all 14 crew members after the vessel came under attack from an explosives-laden boat around 13 nautical miles south of the Houthi-controlled port city of Hodeidah.
According to the NRF, the rescued crew comprised 13 Indian sailors and one Yemeni national. All were brought to safety, provided medical assistance and no casualties were reported.
The NRF blamed Yemen’s Houthi group for the attack. The Houthis had not issued any response at the time of reporting.
