Veteran actor Anupam Kher has expressed deep anguish over the devastation caused by the floods in Assam, urging people across the country to extend support to affected families by contributing to relief efforts.
Sharing a video on Instagram, the 71-year-old actor said the images emerging from the flood-hit state had left him deeply saddened. He spoke about the immense hardship faced by thousands of people who have lost their homes, livelihoods and, in many cases, their loved ones. He also highlighted the suffering of animals caught in the disaster.
Kher said the scenes being witnessed on television and social media were difficult to describe, noting that many children and elderly people had been left without shelter. Reflecting on the scale of the tragedy, he said natural disasters remind people of their vulnerability, but also of the importance of standing together in difficult times.
Appealing for public support, the actor said even a small contribution could help bring hope to families struggling to rebuild their lives. He encouraged those willing to assist financially to donate to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, adding that the value of help lies in the compassion and intent behind it rather than the amount contributed.
In the caption accompanying his post, Kher reiterated that thousands of families had been displaced and appealed to people to support relief efforts. He also offered prayers for the people of Assam and expressed gratitude to those working tirelessly on rescue and rehabilitation operations.
Several members of the film industry have voiced concern over the flood situation in Assam and appealed for assistance for those affected by the disaster.
