Rajasthan Police’s Cyber Crime Wing has dismantled an alleged international cyber-slavery and human trafficking network that lured Indian youths to scam compounds in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam with promises of high-paying jobs before forcing them into organised online fraud.
Five accused have been arrested in the operation, launched under the directions of Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma following intelligence inputs from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and technical surveillance.
Additional Director General of Police (Cyber Crime) Vijay Kumar Singh said the network recruited young Indians with offers of monthly salaries ranging between USD 800 and USD 1,000. Once they reached Southeast Asia, their passports were allegedly confiscated and they were compelled to work in cyber scam centres involved in fake investment schemes, cryptocurrency fraud and so-called “digital arrest” scams.
According to I4C data, more than 500 people from Rajasthan have travelled to scam compounds in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, with many yet to return. Those who managed to come back alleged they were subjected to physical assault, intimidation and long working hours while being forced to participate in cyber fraud.
Police first arrested Rajkaran alias Ronnie (ROXX) and Sagar Singh, both residents of Beawar. Examination of their mobile phones, passports and digital devices allegedly revealed links with foreign handlers, VPN usage, cryptocurrency transactions through Binance, fake GPS locations and an international cybercrime syndicate.
Based on their interrogation, police arrested Jeeturaj alias James, Ravi Kumar alias Mahi and Anil Kumar alias Devil, all from Beawar, in Kolkata while they were allegedly preparing to travel to Myanmar on tourist visas.
Investigators said recruits were taken to scam compounds where their passports and identity documents were seized immediately upon arrival. Victims were allegedly forced to work from 9 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. every day, targeting Indian citizens through online fraud. Attempts to escape reportedly resulted in assault, threats and financial penalties amounting to thousands of dollars.
The investigation revealed that recruits were trained at overseas scam centres before using fake social media profiles, particularly impersonating women on platforms such as Facebook, to befriend victims. They allegedly persuaded targets to invest in fraudulent cryptocurrency and investment schemes promising unusually high returns. The proceeds were routed through mule bank accounts, converted into cryptocurrency and transferred to handlers allegedly operating from China and Cambodia.
Police said Rajkaran alias Ronnie worked as an HR recruiter at a scam compound in Poipet, Cambodia, and recruited Indian youths after returning to Rajasthan. Sagar Singh allegedly identified victims using fake female social media profiles before passing them to senior operators.
Jeeturaj alias James allegedly managed cryptocurrency wallets, transferred USDT to overseas handlers, arranged Indian SIM cards and mule bank accounts, and facilitated recruitment by sharing documents with foreign operators. Ravi Kumar alias Mahi allegedly trained recruits in online fraud at Cambodian scam centres and was preparing to shift operations to Myanmar. Anil Kumar alias Devil allegedly spent nearly a year at a Cambodian scam compound before being intercepted in Kolkata while attempting to travel to Myanmar under the guise of a construction job.
Police have seized passports, visa documents, mobile phones and other digital evidence. Investigators are tracing the international financial trail and identifying other members of the transnational network, with further arrests expected.
The operation was conducted by a Cyber Crime Police team under the supervision of SP (Cyber Crime) Sumit Mehrada and led by DSP/SHO Gajendra Sharma, with Inspector Neeraj Kumar, ASI Rakesh Kumar Samota and other officers participating in the investigation.
