The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed Sun Organic Industries Private Limited to immediately recall a batch of its ‘Wonderland Raisins’ after regulatory tests found pesticide residue levels exceeding the prescribed safety limits.
The food safety regulator said the action was taken after samples collected by the Central Food Safety Officer (CFSO) from FSSAI’s Northern Region Office failed to meet the standards laid down under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011.
According to the FSSAI, laboratory analysis confirmed that the product was unsafe for consumption. The sample was tested by the National Food Laboratory in Ghaziabad and subsequently verified by the Referral Laboratory at NIFTEM-K, both of which detected pesticide residues beyond the maximum permissible limits.
Following the findings, the competent authority instructed the manufacturer to recall the entire affected batch in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017.
The regulator has also directed the company to furnish detailed recall information, submit periodic status reports on the recall process, maintain proper records of all recovered products, and implement corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the FSSAI said the recall order had been issued after regulatory testing established that the product did not comply with prescribed food safety standards due to excessive pesticide residues.
The recall has been initiated under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, which authorises the regulator to order the withdrawal of food products found unsafe for human consumption.
