Veteran actress Jaya Prada has revealed that she spent a sleepless and anxious night before shooting the iconic song De De Pyaar De, recalling how stepping into a glamorous modern look for the sequence left her filled with self-doubt.
Sharing the memory during her appearance on the dance reality show India’s Best Dancer, Jaya Prada said the sequence marked a departure from the traditional image audiences associated with her character, Meena, in the film.
The actress recalled that filmmaker Prakash Mehra had informed her that the song required her to appear in a modern outfit, something she was initially uncomfortable with. She admitted that the prospect of carrying off a glamorous look and delivering a convincing performance made her extremely nervous.
Jaya Prada said she remained awake throughout the night, wondering whether she would be able to look convincing in contemporary attire, having been more familiar and confident with traditional Indian costumes. The pressure to perform the sequence impressively only added to her anxiety.
Despite her apprehensions, she said the shoot eventually went smoothly and the song went on to become one of the most memorable numbers of her career. Describing the composition as having an exceptional rhythm, she noted that the sequence revolved around an intense expression of love, with Amitabh Bachchan’s character searching for her during the night.
Looking back, the actress reflected on how the emotional depth of the song, coupled with its memorable music and choreography, transformed it into a timeless classic despite the uncertainty she had experienced before filming.
