INDIA Bloc Protests in Parliament Over NEET Crackdown, NDA Counters with Demand for ‘Meaningful Questions’

New Delhi, July 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Congress and its INDIA bloc allies staged a protest at Makar Dwar in the Parliament complex on Thursday, demanding accountability from the NDA government over the alleged use of force against students during the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest against the NEET paper leak controversy.

Holding placards carrying the slogan “Who gave the orders?”, Opposition MPs sought answers from the Centre over the alleged police action against students who participated in demonstrations over examination irregularities and paper leaks.

The protest followed remarks made a day earlier by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who questioned the alleged use of force against student protesters and asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to clarify who had authorised the reported police action during the demonstrations.

The BJP and its allies rejected the allegations, asserting that Rahul Gandhi should substantiate his claims instead of making what they described as unverified accusations.

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal said Gandhi’s statements lacked credibility unless backed by evidence, while Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC accused the Congress leader of prioritising political confrontation over constructive parliamentary debate. She said the Opposition should focus on discussing issues such as the Anti-Paper Leak Bill instead of repeatedly targeting the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.

The INDIA bloc, however, maintained that the Home Ministry was accountable for explaining the circumstances surrounding the police action.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said the Union Home Minister was answerable to Parliament under constitutional provisions and argued that the government should respond to the questions raised by the Leader of Opposition.

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav also called for an explanation from the Home Minister, while party colleague Awadhesh Prasad criticised the handling of Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in Parliament, saying the Leader of Opposition should have been allowed to present his views fully.

Revolutionary Socialist Party MP N.K. Premachandran also backed the demand for a response from the Union Home Ministry, saying the allegations regarding the alleged police action against students warranted an official explanation.

The issue is expected to remain a point of confrontation between the Opposition and the ruling alliance as Parliament continues its proceedings.
