NIA attaches property under UAPA in J&K’s Baramulla

Srinagar, June 17, 2026
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Wednesday that it has attached the property of an accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

NIA sources said the agency attached the immovable property belonging to an accused, who has been arrested in the case, in Kanispora village of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The attached property belongs to Shaheen Ahmad Lone, son of late Nazir Ahmad Lone, and comprises 7.5 marlas of land under Survey No. 1192 situated in Kanispora village.

Sources in the agency said the property was attached under Section 33(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, in connection with NIA case RC-01/2020/NIA/JMU.

The attachment was carried out following an order issued by the Special NIA Court, Jammu, on April 30, the officials said.

Shaheen was earlier arrested by the NIA in an alleged illegal arms case and is presently lodged in Tihar Jail, New Delhi, sources added.

It must be mentioned that the National Investigation Agency is the principal counter-terrorism law enforcement agency in India. Established under the NIA Act of 2008, it is headquartered in New Delhi and operates under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to investigate and prosecute crimes threatening national security, sovereignty, and integrity.

NIA targets ideologically motivated violence, bomb blasts, and transnational terrorist networks operating within India.

The federal jurisdiction of the agency includes handling complex cases with inter-state or international linkages, including the smuggling of arms and drugs, terrorist financing, and fake currency rackets. Special Courts conduct fast-track trials for scheduled offences through specially designated NIA courts across the country.

The agency has investigated terrorism related cases against JKLF chief Yasin Malik, separatist leaders Shabir Shah and Nayeem Khan, the Pahalgam attack, a terrorist attack on pilgrims in Katra district and cases related to terror funding in the union territory.(Agency)
