Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, hosted a book launch ceremony in honour of Dr Amarjit Singh Tanda, a distinguished NRI poet and entomologist from Australia.
During the event, PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal highlighted the profound connection between science and literature, emphasising that the fusion of both disciplines results in impactful literary and scientific contributions. He lauded Dr Tanda’s expertise as a scientist and a poet, acknowledging his dedication to entomology and deep-rooted passion for the Punjabi language and culture, even while residing overseas.
The event marked the release of Dr Tanda’s latest literary and scientific works, including his poetry collections “Raag-e-Zindagi: Lammi Umar,” “Waqt Bolda Gaya (Surnaval),” and “Kavitanjali,” as well as his novel “Neela Sukka Samundar.” In addition, two of his scientific books, “Jaivik Niyantran Keet Prabandhan Technology” and “Sarvapakhi Nematode Prabandhan Technology,” were also unveiled.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director of Students’ Welfare, acknowledged Dr. Tanda’s role in promoting Punjabi literature and culture within the diaspora in Australia and praised his commitment to community welfare and literary excellence.
Expressing gratitude, Dr Tanda shared his experiences at PAU and reflected on his deep connection with the institution, reminiscing about his involvement in student literary programs and research endeavours.
Dr. Manmeet Brar Bhullar, Head of the Department of Entomology at PAU, congratulated Dr. Tanda on his scientific publications, recognising their significance in advancing agricultural pest management.
Similarly, Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Culture) at PAU, underscored PAU’s contribution to literature and cultural activities, emphasising Dr Tanda’s active role in fostering literary growth among students during his time at the university.
Dr. Kamaljit Singh Suri, Joint Director (Students’ Welfare), PAU, commended Dr. Tanda’s scientific research in entomology, particularly his contributions to pest control techniques in Australia. The ceremony saw the presence of PAU faculty and officials, including Dr Yogita Sharma (University Librarian), Dr H.C. Tiwari, Dr Amarjit Singh,
Dr Jaswinder Kaur Brar, Dr Gursharan Singh Randhawa, Dr Kuldeep Singh (Associate Director, Public Relations), Dr Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, Dr Prabhjot Sandhu, Dr Suman Kumari, Dr Gurnaz Gill, Dr Avneet Chandi, Dr Sudhendu Sharma, and Dr Bikramjit Singh (President, Young Writers’ Association). The Young Writers’ Association members were also present to witness the literary celebration.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to literature and science, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, presented Dr. Amarjit Singh Tanda with an honorary award. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vishal Bector, Associate Director (International Relations), PAU, who moderated the ceremony.
