Reality star Soundous Moufakir has praised entertainment icon Rakhi Sawant for understanding what works on reality television, arguing that the drama and performances seen on such shows are an important part of the entertainment format.
Speaking to IANS after her eviction from “The Traitors 2”, Soundous said the perception of reality television has changed significantly, with actors who once dismissed the format now seeking opportunities on such shows.
“The actors, who were saying that they won’t do reality shows no matter what, are begging to be a part of reality shows,” she said.
Soundous said reality shows should be recognised as a legitimate part of the entertainment industry.
“I think the word will not change, it has already changed. And people are finally, finally accepting that reality shows are actually a full-time performance and a part of the entertainment industry,” she said.
Praising Rakhi, Soundous said audiences often misunderstand the deliberate performances that go into creating drama on reality television.
“When you go on a reality show, even when you make drama, like how people diss Rakhi Sawant for her drama, what they don’t realise is that it is a performance. And you need to be an icon to pull out that performance in a reality show,” she said.
She added that reality shows deserve the same respect as other forms of entertainment.
“So people should respect reality shows equally as other movies,” Soundous said.
Reflecting on her own journey on “The Traitors 2”, Soundous earlier described her early elimination as disheartening but said the format helped her avoid blaming herself for the outcome.
“I think that is very disheartening to be eliminated at an early stage of the show. But the format is as such. And the format is like that. So at least that takes a little bit of the baggage of not blaming yourself. I think I did my best,” she said.
“The Traitors 2” featured 21 contestants from entertainment, television, social media, food and other fields, including Munawar Faruqui, Mallika Sherawat, Shweta Tiwari, Rhea Chakraborty, Abhishek Malhan, Shalini Passi and Ranveer Brar.
The reality show revolves around trust, deception and strategic alliances, with contestants attempting to identify the hidden Traitors while avoiding elimination.
The latest season has generated attention through confrontations, unexpected eliminations and changing alliances, adding to the unpredictable nature of the competition.
