Actress Saanvie Tallwar believes that Indian television may not see another antagonist with the same lasting impact as the iconic character Komolika, whose style, attitude and scheming persona made her a household name.
Reflecting on the changing landscape of entertainment, Saanvie said the rise of multiple digital platforms and the availability of unlimited content have transformed the way audiences connect with characters. She added that earlier, limited viewing options allowed television characters to remain in public memory for much longer.
“I completely agree. Times have changed and so have audience preferences. Earlier, people had fewer entertainment options, so television characters stayed with viewers for a long time. Today there are countless platforms and endless content. People have so many choices that it becomes difficult for any one character to leave a lasting impact, even if the performance is excellent,” she said.
Komolika continues to be regarded as one of Indian television’s most memorable villains. The character became widely popular as the main antagonist in the television drama “Kasautii Zindagii Kay”. Actress Urvashi Dholakia portrayed the original Komolika in the first season, which aired from 2001 to 2008, while Hina Khan played the role in the reboot “Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2”, which premiered in 2018.
Saanvie, known for her work in “Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum”, also highlighted the growth of streaming platforms as one of the biggest positive changes in the entertainment industry. She said the expansion of platforms has created more opportunities for artists despite increased competition.
“There are more opportunities than ever before. Competition has increased, but having more choices is definitely a positive development for artists,” she added.
Saanvie Tallwar was recently seen in the psychological thriller and horror-themed family drama web series “Khamosh Aahatein”.
