Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim over breakfast in the national capital on Sunday.
The Congress shared pictures of the meeting on X, describing it as a breakfast interaction between the Gandhi siblings and the Malaysian Prime Minister.
Anwar Ibrahim is in India for the two-day BRICS Summit being held in New Delhi. On Saturday, he attended the summit session on ‘Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism’, participated in a tree plantation drive with leaders of other BRICS countries and joined a gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During his visit, Anwar has also held bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Modi, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit.
Modi and Anwar reviewed progress in the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, semiconductors, infrastructure, the digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism and people-to-people ties.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Anwar also conveyed Malaysia’s concurrence to the establishment of an Indian Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
The two leaders discussed key regional and global issues of mutual interest, with Modi appreciating Malaysia’s continued support in strengthening India-ASEAN ties.
The meeting also took stock of the outcomes of Modi’s visit to Malaysia in February 2026 and reviewed progress across several areas of bilateral cooperation.
After concluding his engagements in New Delhi, Anwar is scheduled to travel to Kerala, where he plans to meet the Grand Mufti of India.
Anwar said the Kerala visit would provide an opportunity to exchange views on community development, education and religious affairs. He will then travel to Male in the Maldives for an official visit at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu.
