Jalandhar Commissioner of Police Satinder Singh has been appointed as the Patron of the Surjit Hockey Society, in accordance with the society’s constitution, which designates the city’s Police Commissioner as its patron.
A delegation of Surjit Hockey Society members called on CP Satinder Singh and formally presented him with the Patron’s appointment letter. The delegation included L.R. Nair, Working President Lakhwinder Pal Singh Khaira, CEO Iqbal Singh Sandhu, General Secretary Surinder Singh Bhapa, Vice President Narinder Pal Singh Judge, and Secretary Ranbir Singh Toot.
The office-bearers congratulated the Police Commissioner on the achievements of the Surjit Hockey Society and briefed him on preparations for the 43rd Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament, scheduled to be held in October.
Accepting the responsibility, CP Satinder Singh appreciated the Society’s outstanding contribution to Indian hockey and described it as one of the country’s most respected hockey organisations that has consistently played a significant role in promoting the sport.
He also praised the Society’s Surjit Hockey Academy, where more than 125 young players in the 4 to 18 years age group are receiving professional coaching. He noted that the academy’s training under Olympians, Dronacharya Award recipients and experienced coaches would produce encouraging results in the years ahead.
The Police Commissioner assured the Society of all possible support from the Jalandhar Police for the continued growth of both the organisation and the game of hockey.
On the occasion, Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Manpreet Singh was also specially honoured by the Society.
