Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday visited the Kalladi landslide site in Kerala for the first time since the tragedy that claimed eight lives earlier this month, reviewing relief efforts and interacting with affected families, officials and rescue personnel.
During the visit, Priyanka inspected the landslide-hit tunnel construction site, met families displaced by the disaster, and visited injured workers undergoing treatment at Meppadi WIMS Hospital. She also held discussions with doctors and hospital authorities on the condition of those admitted, including workers from Madhya Pradesh injured in the incident.
Assuring those affected of continued support, the Congress leader said the government would provide all necessary assistance to families who lost their homes and loved ones.
Priyanka also attended a function organised by the district administration to honour personnel and volunteers involved in the rescue and relief operations. She praised the people of Wayanad for their unity and resilience during natural disasters and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the landslide.
“The rescue effort reflected the true spirit of India, where people came forward to help fellow human beings without considering religion, region or identity,” she said, commending the dedication of rescue teams, volunteers and officials.
Her visit came 18 days after the landslide, amid criticism from some quarters over her absence during the initial rescue operations. Congress leaders had earlier maintained that she was closely monitoring the situation despite not being physically present.
Kerala Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar, Agriculture Minister T. Siddique, and MLAs I.C. Balakrishnan and Usha Vijayan accompanied Priyanka during the visit.
