Iran in ‘all-out’ economic, military, security war, says President Pezeshkian

Tehran, August 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Iran is facing an “all-out” economic, military and security war with its adversaries, President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday, as tensions with the United States continued to escalate.

Despite US pressure, Iran was standing firm and working to serve its people in the face of what he described as an unequal war, Pezeshkian said in a televised address carried by the official IRNA news agency.

He said the government was making “wholehearted” efforts to control inflation and address the economic difficulties faced by the Iranian people.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said the United States had no option but to engage respectfully with the Iranian people.

Reacting to the economic measures announced by US President Donald Trump, Araghchi described Washington’s latest move as a recurring pattern of US policy and said Iran was familiar with dealing with such pressure.

Trump had announced on Wednesday what he called “the most crushing economic operation ever taken” against countries providing a lifeline to Iran. He described the move as “economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale”.

The latest escalation comes against the backdrop of an uncertain diplomatic process between Tehran and Washington. Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 aimed at ending the regional conflict on multiple fronts, including Lebanon. The two sides were expected to hold negotiations within 60 days to reach a final agreement, but the talks remain uncertain following renewed escalation between the two countries last month.

On Saturday, Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, warned neighbouring countries and other states against joining the US economic pressure campaign against Tehran.

Rezaei said Iran would initially seek dialogue with countries participating in the US pressure campaign and urge them to withdraw, while warning that continued participation could lead Tehran to regard such countries as enemies.
