Emirates Cricket Board President Khalid Al Zarooni has been unanimously elected Vice-President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), while the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has been added to the list of full member boards eligible to assume the ACC presidency.
The decisions were taken at the ACC Annual General Meeting held on Saturday, which discussed key governance matters, including elections to the Executive Board, rotation of the presidency and the formation of various committees.
The ACC also confirmed representatives of non-Test-playing nations and associate members for the 2026-28 Executive Board. Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saoud Al Thani, President of the Qatar Cricket Association, and Mahmood Gaznavi, President of the Singapore Cricket Association, were elected from the non-Test-playing nations.
Mohamed Faisal of the Cricket Board of Maldives and Mohammad Mansoor of the Bahrain Cricket Federation will share a term on the Executive Board.
The ACC members also approved the inclusion of the ACB in the roster of full member boards eligible to assume the council’s presidency. The presidency is currently rotated among India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The council also confirmed the formation of committees to oversee governance, administration, cricket development, competitions, finance and other key areas.
ACC President Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the decisions, saying they reflected the maturity of the council’s governance and its collective commitment to strengthening cricket across Asia.
“I congratulate our newly elected Vice President and Executive Board Members, and I thank every Member Board for the spirit of unity and cooperation that continues to define this Council,” Naqvi said.
He added that the council’s responsibility was to carry the vision forward with discipline and commitment for present and future generations of Asian cricketers.
