Punjab Police on Tuesday conducted a special Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Malerkotla district as part of its ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ (War Against Drugs) campaign, leading to the arrest of 18 persons wanted in different criminal cases.
The operation was led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Patiala Range, Kuldeep Singh Chahal, IPS, in accordance with directions issued by the Director General of Police, Punjab.
A large-scale search and verification drive was carried out in the Jamalpura area of Malerkotla city in the presence of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malerkotla Gurmeet Singh, gazetted officers and a heavy deployment of police personnel.
Police said 18 persons wanted in different criminal cases were apprehended during the operation. In addition, several suspicious persons were questioned and their credentials were verified.
DIG Kuldeep Singh Chahal said the anti-drug campaign would continue with full intensity to make Malerkotla a drug-free district. He added that individuals seeking help to overcome drug addiction are being provided full assistance by Punjab Police and are being admitted to de-addiction centres for treatment and rehabilitation.
He further informed that similar special checking operations were also carried out in the Amargarh and Ahmedgarh sub-divisions as part of the district-wide enforcement drive.
Appealing to the public, the DIG urged citizens to actively support Punjab Police’s campaign against drugs by sharing information about drug traffickers, illegal narcotics activities and individuals battling drug addiction so that timely intervention and legal action can be ensured.
He said public cooperation remains crucial in achieving the goal of a drug-free Punjab.
