Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), Bathinda, has earned national recognition for its research excellence by securing the 119th position among Indian academic institutions in the Nature Index Institution Rankings 2026. The University recorded nine research articles with a Share score of 1.78, reflecting the growing quality and global impact of its research.
The Nature Index assesses institutions based on research publications in leading international journals across the natural sciences, health sciences, applied sciences, and social sciences.
CU Punjab researchers published their work in prestigious journals, including Advanced Functional Materials, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nature Medicine, and The Lancet. Their research spans advanced materials, sustainable chemistry, nanotechnology, energy storage, carbon dioxide conversion, and global health.
The University also contributed to several Global Burden of Disease (GBD) studies published in Nature Medicine and The Lancet, addressing major health challenges such as dietary iron deficiency, chronic respiratory diseases, substance use disorders, and cancer.
The University’s success reflects the dedicated efforts of faculty and researchers, including Prof. Jasvinder Singh Bhatti, Prof. S.K. Mahapatra, Prof. Rajendra S. Dhayal (currently on lien at CU Rajasthan), Prof. Baljinder Singh, Prof. Mukesh Kumar Yadav, Dr. Balachandar Vellingiri, Dr. Mahalaxmi Iyer, Dr. Amit Singh, Dr. Ujjawal Sharma, whose work continues to enhance CU Punjab’s growing research reputation.
Congratulating the faculty members, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari said that the University’s performance in the Nature Index Rankings reflects its sustained focus on quality research, innovation, and international collaboration.
He said the achievement is the result of the dedication and hard work of the University’s researchers, whose contributions are helping address important scientific and societal challenges while enhancing the University’s global academic standing.
This recognition in the Nature Index Institution Rankings 2026 further strengthens CU Punjab’s position as a leading research-driven university and reaffirms its commitment to producing high-impact research that contributes to scientific progress and national development.
