Veteran actress Neetu Kapoor has taken a sarcastic swipe at paparazzi photographers over their habit of asking actresses to pose for pictures from behind.
The actress, who was last seen in Daadi Ki Shaadi, was spotted outside an establishment in Mumbai on Sunday. As she walked towards her car, paparazzi stationed at the venue asked her for a picture of her back.
Turning around, Neetu sarcastically asked the photographers, “Aapko yeh bada accha lagta hai na, ‘back’?”
The paparazzi denied it as she got into her car and closed the door.
Neetu’s remark comes amid growing criticism from members of the film industry over what they have described as intrusive and inappropriate “back shots” of female celebrities.
Actress Neha Dhupia had earlier confronted photographers at a Mumbai awards event over the practice. Calling it disrespectful, she asked, “Yeh badtameezi se backshot kaun leta hai tum logon mein se? Band karo.”
Dhupia said her objection was not limited to herself but was on behalf of women across the industry. She also said celebrities had repeatedly asked photographers to stop taking such pictures and were “tired of saying it again and again”.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan subsequently backed Dhupia’s stand during an episode of Bigg Boss 20. While discussing the issue, he specifically referred to Dhupia’s efforts to challenge the practice and urged women who were uncomfortable with such photographs to speak up.
Khan strongly criticised paparazzi photographers who continue taking such pictures despite being asked to stop, describing the practice as “disgusting”. He also suggested that women should physically confront photographers who ignored their objections.
Neetu Kapoor’s latest comment has once again drawn attention to the debate over celebrity privacy, consent and the boundaries of paparazzi photography.
