Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray are set to lead a public march in Mumbai on Sunday to protest against the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging irregularities in voter lists and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
The march, scheduled to begin at Metro Cinema, is being organised as a public movement to raise concerns over alleged voter list manipulation and what the organisers describe as institutional bias. The two leaders have called on people across Maharashtra to participate in large numbers.
In a joint statement, the MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT) accused the Election Commission of misleading voters and functioning in favour of the ruling party at the Centre. The parties said the protest would extend beyond party lines and that they would reach out to political parties across the spectrum to build a united front.
Describing the demonstration as an effort to safeguard democracy and the Constitution, the organisers urged citizens and political groups to join the march.
Raj Thackeray had earlier criticised the BJP and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, demanding the immediate cancellation of the ongoing SIR process. He alleged that the ruling party was using key institutional figures to maintain its hold on power and called on opposition parties nationwide to unite for a large-scale agitation.
Raj Thackeray has also advocated a return to paper ballots as part of broader electoral reforms.
The march marks a joint public mobilisation by the two Thackeray-led parties against the Election Commission’s electoral roll revision process, with the organisers seeking wider political participation in their campaign.
