Puducherry, October 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Seam-bowling all-rounder Suryansh Shedge has joined the India A squad as a replacement for injured Hardik Pandya for the upcoming three-match one-day series against Australia A, beginning here on Tuesday.

Pandya, who was named in the squad last month subject to a fitness clearance, has been ruled out after experiencing discomfort in his right calf on September 19. An MRI scan subsequently revealed very mild intramedullary oedema, described as being consistent with right medial tibial stress syndrome.

“Yes, Shedge has joined the India A squad as a replacement for injured Hardik. Shedge had a quadriceps injury and was recovering from it at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru,” a source tracking developments told IANS on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Shedge made his international debut during India’s T20I tour of Ireland in June and subsequently featured in the T20I series against England and Zimbabwe. He is yet to claim an international wicket.

Shedge impressed in the India A 50-over tri-series in Sri Lanka earlier this year, scoring 147 runs in five matches and taking two wickets in 23 overs.

His addition to the India A squad means Shedge will miss Mumbai’s opening Ranji Trophy fixture against Chandigarh at the Wankhede Stadium, beginning October 11.

Middle-order batter Naman Dhir will also miss the Australia A series after being added to India’s T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against the West Indies as a replacement for Washington Sundar.

Sundar, who was part of India’s Asian Games gold medal-winning team in Japan, has been released from the T20I squad to turn out for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy as part of his preparations for the Test series against New Zealand in November.

Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead India A in the three 50-over matches against Australia A, scheduled for October 6, 9 and 11.

The first one-dayer will now start at 2 p.m., with the gates opening for spectators at 1 p.m. The second and third matches will begin at 9 a.m.

Updated India A squad: Ruturaj Gaikwad (captain), Priyansh Arya, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal (vice-captain), Rajat Patidar, Kumar Kushagra (wicketkeeper), Nishant Sindhu, Vipraj Nigam, Arshin Kulkarni, Arshad Khan, Prabhsimran Singh (wicketkeeper), Gurjapneet Singh, Yash Thakur and Suryansh Shedge.
