Shillong, October 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The President’s Colour Presentation Ceremony for the Meghalaya Police, scheduled for October 5 in Shillong, has been cancelled following the cancellation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed visit to the state, officials said on Saturday.
The ceremony was scheduled to take place at J.N. Stadium, where Shah was expected to be the chief guest and present the prestigious President’s Colour to the Meghalaya Police in recognition of its distinguished service.
In an official statement, the Meghalaya Police confirmed that the programme had been called off due to “unavoidable circumstances”. The department requested dignitaries, police officers, personnel, media representatives and members of the public to take note of the cancellation.
The police said a fresh date for the ceremony would be announced later and expressed regret over the inconvenience caused.
The cancellation follows the calling off of Shah’s planned visit to Meghalaya. The police department, however, has not disclosed the reason for the Home Minister’s cancelled visit or indicated when the ceremony is likely to be rescheduled.
The President’s Colour is among the highest honours conferred upon a police or military organisation in recognition of exceptional service, commitment and professional excellence.
The presentation was expected to be a significant occasion for the Meghalaya Police, bringing together senior officials, dignitaries and members of the public. It was also intended to recognise the force’s contribution to maintaining law and order and ensuring security across the northeastern state.
Officials and other stakeholders will now await the announcement of a revised date for the ceremony.
