Newly appointed Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh on Sunday visited the residence of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and sought the blessings of his wife, Gursharan Kaur.
Pargat Singh shared photographs of the meeting with members of the former Prime Minister’s family on his X account, remembering Dr. Manmohan Singh for his simplicity, integrity and dedication to the nation.
“Met Smt. Gursharan Kaur Ji, wife of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Took her blessings and paid my respects while remembering Sardar Manmohan Singh Ji. His simplicity, integrity and dedication to the nation will always remain an inspiration,” he wrote.
Speaking about the visit, Pargat Singh said Dr. Manmohan Singh had left behind a legacy that extended beyond India and was recognised across the world. He added that he wanted to begin his work by seeking the blessings of the former Prime Minister’s wife.
“He was a Prime Minister of our country who left behind a legacy not just in the country, but across the entire world. So, I believe that work should begin only after taking blessings from his wife,” he said.
The newly appointed Punjab Congress chief also met veteran party leader Ambika Soni, acknowledging her significant contribution to Punjab. He said he wanted to complete these meetings in Delhi before proceeding to Punjab.
Pargat Singh’s appointment follows the resignation of Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as Punjab Congress president. The Congress leadership has retained the existing working presidents and heads of election committees to ensure continuity and a smooth transition within the state unit.
His appointment comes ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, as the Congress seeks to strengthen its organisational structure, reconnect with party workers and expand its outreach among the public across the state.
