Tarn Taran, October 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Saturday reviewed paddy procurement arrangements at the Tarn Taran grain market, assuring farmers that the state government would procure every grain of their produce and ensure timely payments.
Kataruchak said paddy procurement had commenced across Punjab on October 1 and was proceeding smoothly and without interruption. He said the government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, had made comprehensive arrangements to ensure farmers did not face difficulties while selling their crops.
During his visit, the minister oversaw the procurement of paddy brought by farmers Sulakhan Singh of Karmuwala village and Shamsher Singh of Sakhira village. He also reviewed procurement, lifting, payments and the availability of gunny bags, while interacting with farmers, commission agents and labourers and issuing directions to officials.
The minister said the state had set a target of procuring 180 lakh metric tonnes of paddy for the central pool this season. He added that a Cash Credit Limit (CCL) of ₹42,786 crore had been received to support procurement operations.
Kataruchak said payments were being transferred directly into farmers’ bank accounts within 24 hours. He urged farmers to bring only fully matured and dry paddy, meeting prescribed specifications, to the mandis to ensure they receive the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,461 per quintal and avoid unnecessary delays.
He directed procurement agencies to ensure timely procurement, lifting and payments, with farmers’ complaints resolved on the spot.
On stubble management, the minister appealed to farmers to avoid burning paddy residue and support efforts to protect Punjab’s environment. He stressed that coordination among farmers, commission agents, millers, labourers, procurement agencies and government departments was essential for a smooth procurement season.
Senior officials and representatives of traders and arhtiya associations were also present during the visit.
