Actress Gul Panag has renewed her private pilot licence after 10 years, reflecting on the challenges she overcame to fulfil her long-standing dream of becoming a pilot.
The Dor actress, who is also a licensed private pilot, took to Instagram to share her experience, recalling how excited she was when she first earned her flying licence a decade ago. She said becoming a pilot had been on her bucket list for a long time, despite people telling her that she would not be able to achieve it.
Panag highlighted the effort involved in completing her flying training while managing her acting career. From fulfilling the required flying hours and clearing examinations to handling paperwork and maintaining medical fitness, she said, the process demanded sustained commitment.
“Individually, they’re all relatively simple things. Together, they add up to a great deal, especially when you’re not doing it to pursue flying as a profession,” she wrote, adding that receiving her licence had been an immensely satisfying moment.
Looking back, Panag said she had come to realise that earning a pilot licence was only one part of the journey, while keeping it valid required continued effort. She noted that many aspiring pilots do not complete their training or examinations, while some licensed pilots eventually allow their licences to lapse because of work, medical requirements or insufficient flying hours.
The The Family Man actress said she now appreciates not only what it took to earn her licence but also the commitment required to maintain it.
Panag added that returning for renewal as a licensed pilot, rather than as a student hoping to earn her wings, felt different. She said she was allowing herself a small “pat on the back” for staying committed to her goal.
