Srinagar, October 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Uri National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir will remain temporarily closed on October 4 and 11 to facilitate hill-cutting work being undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), officials said on Saturday.
An order issued by Uri Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Prince Kumar authorised the closures on the two Sundays following a request from the Officer Commanding of the 53 Road Construction Company (RCC), General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF). The request was submitted through a letter dated September 11 and subsequent communications outlining the need for temporary traffic restrictions.
During the closure periods, commuters and transport operators have been advised to use the Bandi–Paranpillan–Dachi route as an alternative.
The order also stipulates that hill-cutting work must not be carried out on government working days between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. The executing agency has been directed to keep the highway open to vehicular traffic during these hours to facilitate commuters.
The BRO has also been instructed to implement all necessary safety measures to protect commuters and other road users while the work is underway.
Issued on October 3, the order has been shared with Baramulla Deputy Commissioner Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid, 53 RCC Officer Commanding Colonel K.D. Singhal, stationed at Mohura under BRO’s Project BEACON, and Uri Sub-Divisional Police Officer Tariq Ahmad Sofi for information and coordination.
The BRO maintains the Uri National Highway, deploying personnel and machinery around the clock to ensure its upkeep. The organisation is also responsible for maintaining the strategic Srinagar-Leh and Srinagar-Jammu national highways in Jammu and Kashmir.
