The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday expelled its Maur MLA Sukhveer Singh Maiserkhana from the primary membership of the party, accusing him of indulging in anti-party activities.
The action came shortly after the first-time legislator publicly questioned his own government over an alleged shortage of teachers in government schools in his constituency.
The party, however, rejected his allegations regarding the shortage of teachers, maintaining that there was an adequate number of teachers in the school, and accused the MLA of indulging in anti-party activity.
Maiserkhana, who represents the Maur Assembly constituency in Bathinda district, had gone live on Facebook and, in an emotional outburst, claimed that he had repeatedly approached the government and senior party leadership over vacant teaching posts but the problem remained unresolved.
Maiserkhana is a first-time MLA who won the Maur seat on the AAP ticket in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. Official Punjab Vidhan Sabha records show that he polled 63,099 votes, defeating Independent candidate Lakha Singh Sidhana, who secured 28,091 votes, by a margin of 35,008 votes. SAD candidate Jagmeet Singh Brar finished third with 23,355 votes.
