The Delhi Police have booked two alleged key members of the Nasir Hafiz Khan-led Irani Gang under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) following an investigation into an alleged interstate organised crime syndicate involved in robbery, cheating and other offences.
The Central District Police said the action followed sustained technical surveillance, human intelligence and coordination with police in other states.
The case stems from FIR No. 389/2025 registered at DBG Road Police Station over the alleged robbery of Rs 18.84 lakh on October 23, 2025. During the investigation, police allegedly established that Khan, also known as Irani and Sameer, was operating an organised crime syndicate for financial and other unlawful gains.
Khan, a resident of Ambiwali in Mumbai, has been linked by investigators to around 38 criminal cases registered in Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Based on the evidence gathered, approval under Section 23(1)(a) of MCOCA was obtained against Khan, following which FIR No. 202/2026 under Section 3 of the Act was registered at DBG Road Police Station.
One of his alleged associates, Ali Chunna, alias Raja, had earlier been arrested in the robbery case. Police said he was subsequently granted bail but later absconded.
A team led by DBG Road SHO Inspector Randhir Singh, under the supervision of ACP Paharganj Saurabh A. Narendra, traced Chunna to Shaheen Bagh on August 10 through technical surveillance and human intelligence. The 42-year-old was subsequently arrested in the MCOCA case.
Police said Chunna’s disclosure led investigators to another alleged gang member, Akbar Ali, alias Kabir. A separate team monitored mobile numbers allegedly used by Akbar Ali and his wife and traced him towards Silvassa in Dadra and Nagar Haveli on August 17. The information was shared with local police, leading to his identification and apprehension near Hotel Plaza.
Akbar Ali, 35, a resident of Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi, has been linked to 24 criminal cases and was allegedly declared a proclaimed offender or absconder in several cases. Police said he frequently changed mobile numbers and residences and allegedly used suspected fictitious identity details to obtain SIM cards.
Investigators alleged that Chunna facilitated the syndicate’s activities by arranging transportation for co-accused persons. A car registered in his name was recovered from Khan’s possession. Police said financing records indicated that the vehicle’s instalments and maintenance expenses were allegedly paid from proceeds generated through criminal activities.
Two mobile phones belonging to Chunna and his wife were also seized. Police suspect the devices may contain information about gang members and their activities.
According to investigators, the probe has generated intelligence about the syndicate’s alleged interstate network, associates, financial and logistical support mechanisms and operations.
Police records also show that Akbar Ali was declared a proclaimed offender in several cases, including those registered at DBG Road, Dwarka South and Model Town police stations, while similar proceedings were initiated in other cases.
