Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Indian contingent for its impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, praising the athletes for their dedication, determination and outstanding achievements that helped the country secure a fourth-place finish in the overall medal standings.
India concluded its campaign with a total of 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze medals, marking another successful outing at the Commonwealth Games.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said he was proud of the contingent’s performance and congratulated all the medal winners for bringing laurels to the nation.
“Throughout the Games, our talented athletes have displayed exceptional skill, determination and dedication. Their hard work will continue to inspire our youngsters,” he said, while extending his best wishes to the entire contingent for future competitions.
The Glasgow Commonwealth Games officially concluded on Sunday after 11 days of competition, with the closing ceremony also marking the formal handover of hosting responsibilities for the next edition to India.
In a significant moment during the ceremony, the Commonwealth Games flag was handed over to Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, symbolising the beginning of India’s preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.
India also presented a cultural showcase highlighting the country’s rich heritage and sporting aspirations. The presentation featured acclaimed singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan and former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, along with an audiovisual display introducing Ahmedabad’s vision for hosting the centenary edition of the Games.
The 2030 Commonwealth Games will mark the 100th anniversary of the event. With Ahmedabad set to stage the competition, India will become only the second nation after Australia to host the Commonwealth Games twice.
