An 18-year-old student preparing for the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examination allegedly died by suicide at his rented accommodation in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Priyansh Kaurav, was a resident of Indrapuri Colony in the Narsinghgarh-Gadarwara area. He had arrived in Indore around 15 days ago to prepare for the SSC examination and was staying in a rented room in the Bhanwarkua area with three friends.
According to the police, the incident came to light on Monday night when two of his roommates returned from coaching classes and found him hanging in the room. They immediately brought him down and rushed him to a nearby hospital before he was referred to Maharaja Yeshwantrao (MY) Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said another roommate had left the accommodation earlier in the evening, leaving Priyansh alone at the time of the incident.
During the preliminary investigation, his friends told police that Priyansh had recently enrolled for SSC coaching but was finding it difficult to concentrate on his studies. They said he had informed his parents a few days earlier that he wanted to return home as he was struggling with his preparation. His family had reportedly agreed to bring him back, but the incident occurred before he could leave Indore.
Priyansh belonged to a farming family. His father is a farmer, while his elder brother is pursuing a B.Tech degree in Bhopal.
No suicide note was recovered from the room.
The Bhanwarkua police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while statements of family members and roommates are being recorded to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
