Congress Questions Bhagwat’s Interaction with Gen Z, BJP Defends Initiative

New Delhi, August 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The proposed interaction of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat with Generation Z and Generation Alpha students in Mumbai has triggered a political debate, with Congress leaders questioning its likely impact while BJP leaders defended the initiative as a platform for dialogue.

Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat said dialogue was important in a democracy but argued that such interactions should encourage an open exchange of ideas rather than an attempt to impose views.

“It is a good thing. Dialogue is important and should always take place. In a democracy, dialogue has great significance. However, such dialogue should be open and should not be an attempt to impose one’s views on others,” Bhagat said.

He added that comments made by Bhagwat about Gen Z in the past, particularly on cultural issues, raised doubts about whether the interaction would be effective.

Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh claimed that younger voters had moved beyond the RSS’ influence, citing recent electoral outcomes as an example.

Defending the event, BJP MLA Ram Kadam said Bhagwat has consistently interacted with people across age groups and described the upcoming programme as part of the RSS tradition of engaging with society.

Shiv Sena leader Shaina N.C. also welcomed the interaction, saying discussions with young people have focused on issues such as culture, discipline, nationalism, civic responsibility, employment, artificial intelligence, social media and identity-related concerns.

Bhagwat is scheduled to interact with Gen Z and Gen Alpha representatives on August 6 in Mumbai during the inaugural session of the 15th Annual Championship Conference of the International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN).

The conference will bring together more than 2,000 students aged between 15 and 19 years from over 100 cities across India. The theme of the event is “The Role of Youth in Uniting the World, the Indian Way.”

The session will mark the beginning of student-led debates, discussions and policy deliberations organised as part of the conference.
