Security forces in Manipur have arrested nine militants linked to different banned insurgent groups and recovered arms, ammunition and other materials during multiple intelligence-based operations across the state, officials said on Sunday.
The joint operations by the Manipur Police and other security agencies were carried out in Thoubal, Tamenglong, Kakching, Chandel, Imphal West and Imphal East districts.
According to officials, the arrested militants are associated with banned outfits including the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) and People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).
Police said the arrested individuals were allegedly involved in activities including kidnapping and forced collection of money, commonly referred to by insurgent groups as “subscriptions”.
Security personnel recovered incriminating materials including documents, subscription receipts, cash, seals and letterheads of banned organisations, along with communication devices and other items.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered a cache of weapons and explosives from a forest area under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district, located along the international border with Myanmar.
The recovered items included a 9 mm pistol, a double-barrel gun, six radio sets, two hand grenades and six powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The bomb disposal team later destroyed the IEDs safely at the site following standard procedures.
Meanwhile, Manipur Director General of Police Mukesh Singh visited the historic 1st Battalion of the Manipur Rifles in Imphal along with senior police officials and reviewed the unit’s facilities and functioning.
During the visit, officials briefed the DGP about the battalion’s history and evolution since its establishment in 1892. The DGP also interacted with personnel and discussed issues related to modernisation, deployment protocols, inspections and operational improvements.
Security forces, including Central Armed Police Forces and Manipur Police personnel, continue counter-insurgency operations, area domination exercises and security checks in vulnerable areas across the state.
Authorities have established 111 checkpoints and nakas across valley and hill districts to monitor movement and prevent militant activities. Security arrangements also remain in place along Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) to ensure safe transportation of essential goods and passenger vehicles.
The Manipur Police has urged people to avoid spreading rumours and remain cautious against fake videos and unverified information circulating on social media platforms.
