A fire broke out at the office of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Kiran Kumari inside the fort complex in Bihar’s Munger district on Saturday morning, destroying several important case files, legal documents and old records.
According to court officials, the blaze started around 9:50 am, shortly before the court was scheduled to open. No officials or employees were present inside the office at the time, and no casualties were reported.
The fire department was informed immediately, following which two fire tenders reached the spot. Firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour before bringing the situation under control.
The incident triggered panic in the court complex, with court employees, lawyers and police personnel gathering at the site after the fire broke out.
Preliminary assessment suggests that a short circuit may have caused the blaze. However, officials have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact reason behind the incident.
The court administration has started assessing the damage and preparing an inventory of the files and documents destroyed in the fire. A technical inspection of electrical wiring and cables across the court premises is also underway to prevent similar incidents in other courtrooms, judges’ chambers and important sections of the complex.
Authorities are also examining other possible causes and collecting details about people present in or around the area at the time of the incident.
Although there was no loss of life, the destruction of judicial records has raised concerns over the preservation and reconstruction of important case-related documents.
The hearings scheduled for Saturday have been postponed due to the incident, and fresh dates are expected to be announced soon.
