Actress Munmun Dutta has highlighted the contribution of female actors in the popular television sitcom ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’, saying women on the show deserve greater appreciation for the value they bring to their characters and the series.
Speaking at a press conference marking the sitcom’s 18-year milestone, Munmun praised her female co-stars and said their talent, dedication and professionalism have played an important role in the show’s enduring popularity.
Describing herself as a strong feminist, the actress said she has always believed in supporting and celebrating other women rather than viewing them as competitors.
“I am a very girls’ girl, very old school. I am a very strong feminist. I believe that if you want to walk, you have to walk together. I’ve never been insecure of anybody here,” she said.
Munmun also acknowledged both the original cast members and newer additions to the show, stating that every actor has contributed in their own way to its success.
She specifically praised the women portraying members of Gokuldham Society, calling them brilliant, intelligent and wonderful colleagues. According to her, female performers often do not receive enough recognition despite their significant contribution to television shows.
“Sometimes women don’t get that much importance. I am not saying it happens here, but it does happen in some places. We bring a lot to the show and to our characters. The women in ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ are equally important,” she said.
The actress added that the mutual respect and professionalism among the cast members have helped the sitcom maintain its connect with audiences for nearly two decades.
‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’, one of Indian television’s longest-running sitcoms, completed 18 years on air on July 28.
