Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive half-century and Mayank Yadav’s fiery bowling performance powered India to a 35-run victory over Zimbabwe in the third and final T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday, helping the visitors complete a 3-0 series sweep.
India, coming off disappointing series defeats in Ireland and England, produced a dominant all-round display as Sooryavanshi smashed 81 off 49 balls to guide the team to a challenging 192/5 on a slow surface.
The young opener showed remarkable composure, balancing aggression with smart strike rotation. His innings included eight fours and four sixes, with a strike rate of 165.31. He added 75 runs with Ishan Kishan and another 50-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer to lay the foundation for India’s strong total.
Kishan contributed 29 before being dismissed by Sikandar Raza, while Iyer scored 27. Rinku Singh provided late acceleration with a quick 25 off 14 balls as India collected 40 runs in the final four overs. Zimbabwe’s Brad Evans was the pick of their bowlers with figures of 2/41.
In reply, Zimbabwe never looked comfortable as Mayank Yadav struck with the first ball of the innings, removing Brian Bennett with a sharp 147kph delivery. Yash Thakur then delivered a crucial double blow in the fourth over, dismissing Dion Myers and captain Sikandar Raza to leave the hosts in early trouble.
Ryan Burl and Wessly Madhevere attempted to rebuild the innings with a 60-run stand, but Mayank returned to break the partnership and later dismissed Brad Evans. Ashok Sharma also claimed his maiden international wicket by removing Tadiwanashe Marumani.
Despite Burl’s unbeaten 54 off 42 balls, Zimbabwe managed only 157/7 in 20 overs. Mayank finished with impressive figures of 3/29, while Thakur claimed 2/45.
India’s victory completed a convincing 3-0 triumph in the series, with Sooryavanshi’s batting brilliance and Mayank’s pace proving decisive.
