The Punjab Government’s Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana has received positive feedback from beneficiaries across the state, with women describing the initiative as transparent, convenient and empowering.
According to an official statement, the Bhagwant Mann-led government has so far transferred ₹1,149 crore directly into the bank accounts of nearly 33 lakh women under the scheme. Beneficiaries belonging to the Scheduled Caste category have received ₹4,500 each in three monthly instalments of ₹1,500, while women from other eligible categories have received ₹3,000 each in three monthly instalments of ₹1,000.
The government said that more than 70 lakh women have enrolled under the scheme, making it one of Punjab’s largest women-focused social welfare initiatives.
Sharing her experience, Sarabjit Kaur (32) of Gurdaspur said the direct transfer of funds into women’s bank accounts ensures that the financial assistance remains secure and is utilised for household and essential expenses. She said the DBT system allows beneficiaries to withdraw the money whenever required without depending on cash distribution.
Gagandeep Kaur (35) from Harchowal village described the process as quick and hassle-free, stating that the assistance was credited to her account within five to six days of submitting her application. She said the system eliminated the need to stand in queues and ensured transparency in the disbursement process.
Suman Kumari (49) of Sri Hargobindpur said the financial assistance had helped her family meet household and educational expenses. She added that her two daughters, who are pursuing higher education, had also benefited from the scheme.
Harpal Kaur of Ahmedgarh said the assistance had enabled women to address their own priorities and household requirements. She urged beneficiaries to utilise the funds responsibly, saying the government had introduced the scheme with the objective of supporting women.
Punjab Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr. Baljit Kaur said the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana was launched to provide financial security and dignity to women. She reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring transparent and timely assistance, adding that no eligible beneficiary would be left out.
The scheme’s banking partner, Axis Bank, said it remained committed to facilitating seamless and timely transfers. Reynold D’Souza, Group Head – Branch Banking, North & TASC Business, Axis Bank, said the bank was proud to partner with the Punjab Government in implementing the initiative and ensuring efficient, transparent and large-scale delivery of financial assistance to beneficiaries.
The government said the DBT model has strengthened financial inclusion by placing welfare funds directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts, giving women greater control over financial assistance and household decision-making.
