A woman allegedly killed her husband and severely injured his abdomen at their rented home in Haryana’s Kurukshetra before jumping from the terrace after being confronted by their landlord, police said.
The deceased was identified as Rajesh, who lived with his wife, Vimla Devi, near Raj Palace on Pehowa Road. According to their landlord Rinku, the couple had a heated argument at around 5 p.m. When he heard the commotion and went upstairs to check, he allegedly found Rajesh lying in a pool of blood with severe abdominal injuries.
According to an NDTV report, Rinku also allegedly saw Vimla placing Rajesh’s intestines, which had protruded from his body, into a bag. She reportedly panicked after noticing the landlord and jumped from the terrace.
Vimla suffered injuries in the fall and was taken to a hospital. Police are awaiting her statement, which could help establish the sequence of events and the motive behind the alleged killing.
Rajesh, originally from Dhampur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, had been living in Kurukshetra with Vimla for nearly a year. He worked in the supply department of a water trading company on Pehowa Road.
A post-mortem examination found extensive injuries, including a deep cut across the abdomen measuring about 35 centimetres. Several other wounds were reportedly inflicted with a sharp weapon. Police also found that part of Rajesh’s liver and his right kidney were missing and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the injuries.
Three knives of different sizes were recovered from the house. A police team led by Station House Officer Surinder Singh reached the spot, while forensic experts collected evidence.
The landlord claimed that Vimla was involved in traditional healing and exorcism-related practices and that the couple frequently argued. Police, however, have not established a motive and are examining their relationship, past disputes and other circumstances.
The couple had been married for several years and had no children. The investigation is continuing.
