Television actress Hina Khan embraced her Kashmiri heritage as she joined the pre-wedding celebrations of her younger sister, giving fans a glimpse of the family festivities on social media.
The Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai actress shared a video on Instagram in which she described herself as a “Kashmir Ki Kali” while celebrating ahead of her sister’s wedding. She was also seen playing the tumbaknari, a traditional Kashmiri percussion instrument, while singing and participating in the festivities.
Dressed in a traditional green suit with an orange salwar, Hina completed her look with traditional jewellery, a statement neckpiece, dark lipstick and her hair swept to one side.
Sharing the video, she wrote, “All things Kashmiri Kashmir Ki Kali all up for Choti Behen Ki shaadi,” along with hashtags highlighting Kashmiri weddings, sisterhood and the tumbaknari.
Hina has frequently spoken about her Kashmiri roots and has used social media to showcase her connection with the region’s culture. She has also spoken about experiencing colourism in the entertainment industry. In an earlier interview, she recalled losing an opportunity to play a Kashmiri character because she was allegedly not considered “fair-skinned enough”.
Born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, Hina grew up in a traditional Kashmiri Muslim family and is fluent in the language.
She rose to prominence with Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and later participated in reality shows including Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 8 and Bigg Boss 11. She subsequently played the antagonist Komolika in Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2.
